Style Guide For Suresafe

Our goal is to provide information about our products in a clear and consistent manner. Given that we source our products from suppliers around the world and we sell everything from softshells to dustbins, we’ve developed a specific approach to language, measurements, and terminology to make your experience as straightforward as possible.

It probably won’t last, but we’re starting out as we mean to go on…

Spelling & Language

We use British English as our standard. This means, for example, that:

  • “-ise” instead of “-ize”: You’ll see spellings like “organise” rather than the American “organize.”
  • Specific product terms, such as “coverall” instead of “overall,” are carefully chosen for clarity, though we also provide information on the distinctions when relevant. We already have a blog post in the pipeline about that one.
  • You will also find British English spellings like “metre” (not “meter”), “colour” (not “color”), and “centre” (not “center”). These choices align with our preference for British standards and contribute to a consistent experience on our site.

That being said, some variations may appear. These will reflect our suppliers’ preferences, especially in technical specifications or Safety Standards. We include these to maintain accuracy and compliance with industry regulations.

Measurements

  • Our standard measurements are in metric: centimetres (cm), grams (g), and square metres (sq m). This approach offers a unified standard across our range of products.
  • We recognise that many customers are familiar with Imperial terms, so you may occasionally see references like “6 ft” or “5 ft 8 inches” for ease of understanding. However, we strive to present these in metric wherever possible.

Shoe Sizes

We primarily use UK sizes for footwear, but we provide a conversion chart to European sizes to assist our international customers. This ensures everyone can find the best fit, regardless of their preferred sizing system.

Safety Standards & Compliance

In product descriptions, you’ll encounter terms linked to Safety Standards, such as EN ISO numbers. While these may seem technical, they are vital for product authenticity and regulatory compliance.

Slipping Through The Net

We aim for accuracy and consistency across the website. That being said, we will make mistakes. In truth, we have probably done so already. We’ll correct them eventually.

That being said, you may occasionally spot a product listing that uses Imperial measurements instead of metric. It may not be a mistake. A “6 ft stepladder” sounds better than a “1.82 m stepladder”. Our aim is to strike a balance between technical accuracy and ease of use.

By adhering to this style guide, we aim to provide a smooth, informative experience. Our approach to language, measurements, and product details has been thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of our customers while staying true to industry standards.
